Let Us Recognize Your School Bus Drivers

For many Virginia students, a school bus driver is their first hello in the morning and last goodbye in the afternoon. In fact, nearly one million Virginia students are transported to and from school, field trips, athletic events and other school-related activities on more than 15,000 school buses each school day. We want to say Thank You and recognize as many Virginia school bus drivers as possible!

If you want to recognize a driver (or several!) at your school district, submit your nomination through the below button. Nominees will be highlighted on our website and social pages as well as entered to win a prize pack.

Interested in Becoming a School Bus Driver?

There are plenty of great reasons to become a school bus driver and many of Virginia’s school districts are actively hiring for drivers now! If you’re interested in becoming a school bus driver, contact your local school division’s pupil transportation department. Here are a several reasons to consider becoming a school bus driver for your local school division.

  1. Competitive Pay and Bonuses. States across the country are in need of more school bus drivers. Many are offering highly competitive pay as well as signing and retention bonuses.
  2. Paid Holidays and Vacation Time. Enjoy holidays and vacation time with your family.
  3. Summers Off. School’s out for students…and drivers!
  4. Full-time Benefits for Part-time Work. Many school divisions offer health insurance, life insurance, paid sick leave, retirement plans, and other benefits to part- and full-time bus drivers.
  5. Paid Training. School bus drivers must have their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). If you don’t already have one, no need to worry! Many school divisions offer paid-training so you can become properly licensed.
  6. Flexible Schedule. Most school bus drivers have a morning and afternoon route. A mid-day break allows you time to take care of your personal responsibilities or hobbies.
  7. Take Your Children With You to Work. Many school divisions allow their drivers to bring their children with them while they drive, making this the perfect occupation for stay-at-home-parents.
  8. Make a Difference. Being a school bus driver is more than transporting students to and from school and activities. As a driver, you have the opportunity to be a driver, friend, and mentor to our future!
